Find My Kennel

Privacy policy

This covers the Find My Kennel website (findmykennel.com) and the Find My Kennel app for iOS and Android. Find My Kennel is run by FGA Labs. We collect what the features need, we don't sell personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.

01

Browsing without an account

You can search the directory without an account. When you do, we handle:

  • Location, only when you ask. If you tap “near me”, your browser or phone shares your location so we can run that search. We use it for the search and don't store it. The app asks for location only while you're using it.
  • Map tiles. Maps load from OpenFreeMap, so that service sees your IP address and which map area you're viewing, as any web server would.
  • Usage events. The website records simple product events (page views, taps on a listing's phone or website, saves) in our own database so we can see which listings are useful. Each event stores the event name, the page path, the listing, the platform, a random session id that lives in your browser tab and ends when you close it, and your account id if you're signed in. We don't store your IP address or browser details with these events, and we delete them after 13 months.
  • Analytics (website, with consent). Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Analytics run only if you accept them in the cookie banner. They're off by default. Your choice is saved in your browser, and you can change it any time with “Cookie preferences” in the footer.

Private links (shared pet passports and business confirmation links) send no analytics at all.

App usage and crash reports. The iOS, Android and Mac app sends usage and error reports to PostHog so we can find and fix bugs. It sends: which screens you open (the screen type, such as “listing page”, never which listing or conversation), when the app is opened or backgrounded, crash and error reports (the error, where in our code it happened, the app version, and your device model and operating system), and your account id if you're signed in. It never sends your email, your messages, your posts, your pets' records or photos, and it doesn't record your screen. PostHog is set to discard your IP address, so these reports carry no location. We keep them for up to 12 months. When you sign out or delete your account, the app stops linking reports to it.

02

If you create an account

Accounts are handled by Supabase Auth. You sign in with your email and a password, or with a one-time code we email you. We store:

  • your email address and sign-in details (passwords are stored hashed);
  • your profile: username, display name, avatar, bio, and the city you choose to show. Profiles are public at /u/<username>/;
  • listings you save;
  • your pets: name, breed, birthday, photo, and, if you fill in the care card, feeding, medications, allergies, routines, behavior, medical notes, microchip number, spay/neuter status, weight, vet details, emergency contact, vaccines, reminders, and vaccine documents. Vaccine documents sit in private storage.

A pet's care card is private unless you create a share link. A share link is unlisted and works for anyone who has it, until you turn it off. A public pet profile, if you publish one, is visible to anyone, and we count how often it's opened from a share or QR scan.

03

Things you post or send

  • Public posts: community board threads and replies, guide comments and tips, listing reviews, reactions, and follows are visible to others with your username.
  • Photos:photos you add to a listing are reviewed by a person before they're published. Until then they sit in private storage.
  • Direct messages: stored so you and the other person can read them. They aren't pre-screened. We read them only when one is reported to us or we need to investigate abuse.
  • Reports and blocks: when you report content we store the report, the reason, and what was reported. Blocks are stored so we can enforce them.
  • Place submissions and corrections: what you tell us about a place, plus an email address if you give one so we can follow up. Accepted information becomes part of the public directory.
  • Business confirmations: if you confirm your business's listing from a link we sent, we record the confirmation and any changes you propose. The listing page shows the month it was confirmed.
04

How we use it

To run the features above, keep accounts secure, review content and handle reports, fix and improve the directory, and reply when you contact us. We send account emails (sign-in codes and confirmations). We don't send marketing email.

When someone signs up or submits a place or correction, our team gets an internal alert in a private Discord channel. A sign-up alert includes the account's name, email, and city if set; a new-place alert includes the submitted place details and the submitter's email if one was given.

05

Who processes it

We don't sell or rent personal information. These services process it for us:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in, file storage, and server functions.
  • Vercel: hosts the website, and Vercel Analytics if you consent.
  • Google Analytics: website analytics, only if you consent.
  • PostHog: app usage and crash reports (US servers).
  • OpenFreeMap: map tiles.
  • Discord: internal team alerts described above.

We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.

06

Deleting your account

In the app, go to the Me tab and choose Delete account. Deletion is permanent and immediate. It removes your account, profile, saved listings, pets and their documents, photos, posts and replies, and direct messages (for both people in the conversation). Place submissions you made stay in our records so the directory stays accurate, but they're detached from your account and any email address on them is removed.

The website doesn't have a delete button yet. Email kyle@findmykennel.comfrom the address on your account and we'll delete it within 30 days.

07

Your rights

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it, or delete it, wherever you live. Residents of states with privacy laws (such as California, Colorado, Virginia, and others) have these rights by law; we extend them to everyone. Email kyle@findmykennel.comand we'll respond within 30 days. We won't treat you differently for asking.

08

Retention and security

We keep account data until you delete your account. Usage events are deleted after 13 months. Data is encrypted in transit, private data is protected by per-account access rules in the database, and only the operator can reach the admin tools. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting you, we'll tell you.

09

Children

Find My Kennel is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email kyle@findmykennel.comand we'll delete it.

10

Business listings

Directory listings describe businesses, and come from open data and the businesses' own websites. See Sources & licenses for where that data comes from. To correct or remove a listing, email kyle@findmykennel.com.

11

Changes and contact

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and for meaningful changes we'll give notice on the site or in the app. Questions: kyle@findmykennel.com.
