What pet-care facilities actually advertise
Every kennel website promises the same handful of things. We read what US facilities publish about themselves and counted how often each amenity and service actually appears — so you can tell which features are table stakes and which are genuinely rare enough to be worth searching for. Collected June 2026.

Read this the right way
These are advertising rates, not capability rates. The denominator is facilities that publish a list of amenities or services at all, and a feature’s absence from a list means it isn’t promoted — not that it isn’t offered. A kennel with webcams that never mentions them counts here as not advertising them.
That limitation is also the useful finding. What a facility chooses to put on its own homepage is what it believes sets it apart, so a low rate marks a real differentiator rather than a universal feature. When only 27.9% of kennels lead with webcams, webcams are worth filtering for.
Boarding kennels
Of boarding facilities that publish an amenity list, here is how often each feature appears. Note how sharply these divide: supervised play and indoor/outdoor runs are close to standard, while a vet on site is rare enough to be a genuine distinguishing feature.
| Advertises… | Facilities | of kennels listing amenities | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Webcams | 1,313 | 4,711 | 27.9% |
| Cat boarding | 1,429 | 4,711 | 30.3% |
| Suites or private rooms | 1,291 | 4,711 | 27.4% |
| Supervised playgroups | 2,770 | 4,711 | 58.8% |
| Indoor/outdoor runs | 2,453 | 4,711 | 52.1% |
| Vet on site | 356 | 4,711 | 7.6% |
| Large dogs accepted | 937 | 4,711 | 19.9% |
The “kennel” in dog kennel is usually literal: 30.3% advertise cat boarding, so most cat owners are choosing from a much smaller set than the directory size suggests.
Grooming salons
Grooming has a much denser service vocabulary, and the spread runs from the near-universal to the specialist. A full groom is advertised by 75.9% of salons; cat grooming by 34.5%.

Cat grooming by state (n ≥ 10)
Where cat owners have the easiest time. Rates are over salons in that state publishing a service list; states below the 10-salon bar are reported as insufficient data rather than given a number a handful of shops would swing.

Mobile grooming
Mobile grooming — the van that comes to you — is advertised by 8.3% of the salons where we established it either way (966 of 11,674). It is the one service in this audit with a clear geographic story: it concentrates where driving distances are long enough to make a house call worth paying for.

Methodology
What was measured. Amenity and service lists extracted from facility websites as part of the Find My Kennel enrichment pipeline, collected June 2026, and normalised to a fixed vocabulary. A facility appears once per category it belongs to, so a business that both boards and grooms is counted in both tables.
The denominator. For each vertical, the population is facilities that published a list of that kind— amenities and services are counted separately because a kennel may publish one and not the other. Both numerator and denominator are printed beside every rate and included in the CSV, so no figure here can be quoted as a share of “all kennels.”
Booleans are treated differently. For flags like mobile grooming, “we established this is false” and “we never established it” are different facts, so the denominator counts only facilities where the answer was actually determined.
Rare vocabulary is suppressed. Features appearing fewer than 25 times are excluded: a handful are extraction stragglers rather than a market signal, and publishing them as rates would give noise the same weight as the real categories.
Selection bias. Facilities that publish detailed amenity lists skew larger, more urban and more marketing-sophisticated than the industry as a whole. Expect the true rate of any given feature among all facilities to be lower than the rate shown here.
Common questions
Do dog boarding kennels have webcams?
Some do, but far fewer than the marketing suggests: 1,313 of 4,711 boarding kennels that publish an amenity list advertise webcams — 27.9%. Because it is a minority feature, it is worth filtering for specifically rather than assuming.
Do dog groomers groom cats too?
A minority do. 2,842 of 8,236 grooming salons that publish a service list — 34.5% — advertise cat grooming. Most groomers list dog services only, so cat owners should confirm before booking.
Can boarding kennels board cats?
30.3% of boarding facilities that publish an amenity list advertise cat boarding (1,429 of 4,711). "Kennel" is usually literal — most board dogs only.
